New week, semi-new books! December is an all over the place month for me normally and so far it’s starting out that way this year too. Mood wise I’ve been bouncing around like an agitated squirrel, and we’re only 4 days in.
The Dead Zone by Stephen King – 3 Stars ✬✬✬ – This one was fairly decent, though it took a long time to get to the point and had so much freaking set up. I did appreciate the parallels to the current political situation (or person rather) and I think that aspect kept me from disliking it. I will say the movie with Christopher Walken is MUCH better and I actually ended up appreciating the story a lot more after watching it, but I’m not changing my rating to reflect that.
Firestarter by Stephen King – This was the book I was trying to get to and the reason I forced myself through the last few, and it’s paid off! I am actually enjoying this one quite a bit! The pacing is fantastic for once, the two main characters are very likable, and the premise is pretty cool. I should finish this either today or tomorrow.
Inkling by Kenneth Oppel – I should be done with this by now since it’s super short, but my focus is shot. It’s really good though! It has some really sad moments in it that deal with the loss of a parent, and a few glimpses into his dad’s struggle with it as well. But much of it is upbeat and I love the relationship the main character has with his little sister.
In the Vanisher’s Palace by Aliette de Bodard – I’m just starting this one like I’m on page 2, so I can’t say too much about it but I am looking forward to it.
