Top Ten Tuesday: Platonic Relationships in Sci-Fi

  • Medusa Uploaded by Emily Davenport – This has a focus on some really great friendships. The main character, Oichi, and her Medusa unit becomes an inseparable pair and I really loved how integrated the unit becomes in her life. The other medusa unit users become a tight knit group despite the age and social gaps as well.
  • The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet by Becky Chambers- Another one that focuses on relationships and really all of these are worth mentioning because they are so varied!
  • Thrawn by Timothy Zahn – I was determined to find a TTT list to place Thrawn on, and here it is! Thrawn has a really great friendship/partnership with Eli Vanto. Think along the lines of Sherlock and Watson’s friendship and how well that works.
  • The Girls from Alcyone by Cary Caffrey – Really the relationships outside of Sigrid and Suko really shine in the second and third book of this series but it’s so worth mentioning here! I love these badass ladies and the love they have for each other, they will go to great ends to protect each other. It’s the ultimate girl group.
  • The Red Rising trilogy by Pierce Brown – Hands down, Darrow and Sevro. I love their banter with each other and how Sevro doesn’t sugar coat anything for Darrow.
  • Bitch Planet series by Kelly Sue DeConnick – The women on the prison planet, specifically the main group, are pretty fantastic. They have deal with some intense BS on this planet and they stick together.
  • The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyere – Cinder and Iko are just amazing friends, and I adore their interactions and sisterhood (depsite one being an AI).
