Last Read
The Machines of Bellatrix by Cary Caffrey – Goodreads
I finally got around to listening to this one, which I should have done months ago but a combination of being a mood reader and pretty terrible stress has basically screwed all of my TBR lists this year in a HUGE way. It was a fantastic second book though and I still love Sigrid and Suko’s relationship. I love everything about the two of them actually, and the end of this one left me screaming.
Relish: My Life in the Kitchen by Lucy Knisley – Goodreads
This was for my Food Memoir item on the Read Harder Challenge. I couldn’t fathom actually reading a novel about food without wanting to die because I’m very picky about the non-fiction I read, but as soon as I saw this graphic novel was an option I immediately requested a copy from the library. I really liked it! It had a great mix of stories as well as some recipes, all done in a really fun vibrant art style.
Currently Reading
Kindred: Graphic Novel – Goodreads
This doesn’t come out until Jan 2017, but I like to get my graphic novel review copies out of the way quickly since the PDFs expire and I don’t really keep up with when they expire (because I’m lazy). I read Kindred a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it, it broke me but I enjoyed it. So I’m looking forward to this one. I can already see that the artist plays with the use of color in signifing the past from the present which I think it’s a pretty great choice.
Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi – Goodreads
This is a story told over several generations. It starts with two half-sisters who have very different lives; one is taken from her village and sold into slavery, and the other marries a white colonial who is a part of the slave trade. It then follows their descendants over the course of centuries.
Homecoming sounds amazing! I have never heard of this book. Side question, how do you get your comment box at the end of your post. I have a WordPress account too and I can not figure out how do do that.
Homegoing was fantastic! I finished about an hour ago, part of it had me in tears.
What do you mean? I checked out your post and it seems the comment box is at the bottom like mine.
You have me sold on Relish. I would actually like a copy. I love the artwork on the cover. Homegoing sounds fabulous. Thanks for TMTing. I have you linked and I will get you shared. 🙂
It’s definitely one for the shelf! Homegoing was completely fantastic!
Thanks for linking, and sorry it posted it so late! Apparently my sleep deprived self flubbed the schedule time and it didn’t post at midnight like I normally do.
The Machines of Bellatrix is totally new to me, but galactic refugees… price on their head… factory planet. Sounds pretty good! I need more sci fi…
