Scavenger: Evolution by Timothy C. Ward – Goodreads
Listened to this for the Audavoxx newsletter and really enjoyed it. It’s a gritty post apocalyptic tale where survival comes at a high cost. It’s a pretty intense listen, though the narrator has a really slow reading voice (though it’s really good) and I had to put it on 1.5 speed just for it sound like a normal pace.
The Star-Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi – Goodreads
TSTQ is a beautifully written book with some excellent use of Hindu mythology and Indian culture, but while I loved the imagery I didn’t really connect with the characters. I do like the plot and the fact that it felt like one of those ‘epics’ of old. I’ll probably remember some aspects but forget most of it.
Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs – Goodreads
This was a total “meh” read for me…which is disappointing as it’s supposed to be peculiar. Though I guess it is. The writing isn’t that strong and the fact that the story is framed by the pictures themselves makes it seem stiff.

Just started so I have no real opinion of it yet, but the writing has a nice flow to it and shouldn’t take me that long to read.
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets by J.K. Rowling – Goodreads
I’m so love with this! I’m about halfway through it already (again for the second time this year) and the illustrations are fantastic. I’m making myself read the book and not look ahead at the images, so it’s been really rewarding.
I keep hearing all the things you said about Miss Peregrines. I have it in a physical copy and between the meh reviews and me preferring to read on !my Kindle, I haven’t gotten to it. I did hear the second book was better, but how much better I don’t know. The Illustrated Chamber Of Secrets! I still haven’t read my Illustrated Sorcerer’s Stone because I wanted to look through the pictures with Sebastian first, but finding sit down time with him is nearly impossible. I am planning a full series reread next year, so I will be reading it wether he looks at the book with me or not. Ha ha. Thanks for TMTing! You are linked and I will get you shared. 🙂
I don’t really think I’ll bother with the second one. The plot is interesting, but I don’t feel like dealing with the execution again. If I do it’ll be a library borrow.
I was supposed to do a full re-read of the series this year, but things got really hectic and just didn’t stop so I only got about half way through Order before I had to stop. If I’m lucky I’ll get to finish it and the other two before the end of the year.
Oh good I just skip Peregrine’s then and see the movie (Eva Green after all). Ha ha Evolution sounds good, I need more post apocs.
I think that’s a good plan! I think it’ll do well for a movie if it’s done right.
