Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
- Threats of Sky and Sea by Jennifer Ellision – 4 Stars – A light fantasy with some great world building and really cool elemental powers.
- The Fine Art of Keeping Quiet by Charity Tahmaseb – 4 Stars – A YA contemporary about facing fears and being yourself.
- The Harvesting by Melanie Karsak – 4 Stars – Paranormal fantasy with a kick ass heroine and fantastic writing.
- Undeniable by Bill Nye – 4 Stars – Nonfiction novel about the science of evolution.
- Ms Marvel Vol.1 No Normal – 5 Stars – The beginnings of a new Ms. Marvel. It has so much heart and Kamala is a fast favorite.
- Yes, My Accent is Real by Kunal Nayyar – 4 Stars – Nonfiction. Actor Kunal Nayyar shares experiences and stories from his life.
- Darth Vader Vol. 1 Vader – 4 Stars – Darth Vader pulls no punches in his Marvel comic debut (re-debut?).
- Crenshaw by Katherine Applegate – 4 Stars – A Middle Grade novel about a boy and his family who are having a hard time financially. It’s not a whimsical as the cover, but it’s still fantastic.
- The Bees by Laline Paull – 4 Stars – A dystopian world in a beehive. It’s unique and odd, but I had a tough time putting it down.
- Midway by Melanie Karsak – 4 Stars – A novella in the same series as The Harvesting. It follows a different character who is just as badass as The Harvesting’s, but wholly unique as well.
There are so many books on your list that I have been intending to read: Undeniable, Yes My Accent Is Real, Crenshaw, and The Bees. I did not realize The Fine Art Of Keeping Quiet was YA. Two thumbs up for that cover. It is much different than the norm for YA Contemporaries. I hope that style becomes the next YA cover “thing” because I like it. 🙂
