Hosted by The Broke and the Bookish
- Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel – Read by Kirsten Potter
- The Little Paris Bookshop by Nina George – Read by Steve West, who is one of my favorites. Think Tom Hiddleston’s voice but a bit deeper.
- The Ocean At the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman – Read by Neil Gaiman
- Monstrous Beauty by Elizabeth Fama – Read by Katherine Kellgrin, my other favorite narrator.
- Armada by Ernest Cline – Read by Wil Wheton
- The Natural History of Dragons by Marie Brennan – Read by Kate Reading
- The Peculiar by Stefan Bachmann – Read by Peter Alischuler
- An Ember in the Ashes by Sabaa Tahir – Read by Fiona Hardingham & Steve West
- A New Dawn by John Jackson Miller – Read by Dave Filoni. Any Star Wars audio is worth checking out because of the high quality and use of sound effects and voice effects.
- Alias Hook by Lisa Jensen – Read by Ralph Lister
I haven’t listened to any of these. Nor have I read them. An Ember in the Ashes is the one I’d go for though.
Ember is really good. Thanks to you and Kimba I’ve been picking up audios a lot more now
Great topic! One of these days I’ll have to give audiobooks another try. I couldn’t get into them when I first tried listening to one, but my tastes are always changing. 🙂
I was the same way, it took me a few really good audios to really get use to the idea and learn how to pay attention AND do other things.
Heyyyyyyyyy, I did top ten audiobooks too! Haha! How do you NOT have The Martian on here? /shockhorror/
Awesome! And, it’s because I didn’t listen to The Martian on audio, I read it.
Oooh you have to listen to it!! I just got the audio badge actually for listening to the same story twenty times because of that book! Haha
I love listening to audiobooks!! They help pass the time while driving/commuting or completing other tasks. I’ll have to check out the ones you’ve mentioned in your post.
I chose to focus on banned books as Banned Books Week is coming up later this month!! Here’s a link to my TTT post for the week: http://captivatedreader.blogspot.com/2015/09/top-ten-tuesday-my-list-of-favorite.html
I listen to them while at the store, since I have a lot of uninterrupted down time most days.
And thank you for reminding me about banned books week! I’ll have to write a reminder down so I can highlight some at the store.
I’m so not an audiobook person …but my husband loves them! 🙂 My TTT
It took me a while to get use to audiobooks, I had to basically learn how to focus on both the book and whatever I was trying to do at the time. I still find it awkward to listen to them if I’m doing absolutely nothing else though.
I would love to hear Gaiman read his own work!
Check out my TTT.
It’s nice to see someone else did audiobooks, too. ^_^
I haven’t read or listened to any of these, but I’ve enjoyed several Star Wars audios and Katherine Kelgren is always a magnificent narrator. ‘Alias Hook’ and ‘The Little Paris Bookshop’ sound particularly interesting. I’ll have to check them out!
Here’s my TTT.
Cool choices, Michelle! I’ve read Station Eleven, The Ocean at the End of the Lane, and A Natural History of Dragons. I loved A Natural History of Dragons on audiobook, but I’ve never read or listened to any of the other books you mentioned. Monstrous Beauty is on my TBR, and I keep thinking it’s time to bump it up! Thanks for sharing!
OMGGG how awesome that Armada is narrated by Wil Wheaton! He would be perfect for that one!
He is! It’s always nice to have someone who understands the references and says everything correctly or adds in sound effects.
Good topic! I always like hearing about good audiobooks to spend my audible credits on. Top of my to-read list of these is Station Eleven. And I want to read Armada soon, just because Will Wheaton, his narrations are fab!
Thanks! Station Eleven was really good, I think you would enjoy it. And Wil Wheaton is perfect for Armada and Ready Player One. His excitement and knowledge of the geeky fan base really helps knock it out of the park.
I have just gotten into audiobooks at the beginning of this year. My favorite so far has been The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield. i adored the British narrator. 🙂
