Read Play Blog #6: Gaming Wishlist and Gift Recommendation

This month’s topic is: Gaming Wishlist!

Well tis the season for gift giving and naturally I have quite a few games on my wishlist!

Games Out Now

  1. Dragon Age: Inquisition – I love the Dragon Age series (and I’m Bioware fangirl, as I’e mentioned before), so it’s a no brainer that this epic medieval style RPG is on the list this year. I need to take on a new challenge within Thedas and hopefully make Varric realize that Bianca is not a valid choice for a romance…it’s just a crossbow you sill dwarf.
  2. Pokemon: Omega Ruby – Another constant in my life is the Pokemon series! I’ve been in love with this franchise since Red hit our stores, and Pokemon Indigo League started playing on the tv. I’ve seen my best friend play this and I’m dying to use the DexNav, it’s going to make finding Shinies a whole lot easier. Actually it’s going to make finding pokemon easier. No more internet surfing just to find a region list.
  3. Assassin’s Creed: Rogue – I know, I know. I’ve been complaining about Unity for a while now…and honestly, I’m over it. (sort of). Unity had a great storyline and that’s the reason I am such a hardcore fan of the franchise…Ubisoft has pissed me off in a big way this year though BUT I’ve heard Rogue is a solid addition to franchise. It doesn’t have the kinks that Unity had (if you can call gigantic glitches kinks) and it has a great out of the box storyline to keep me guessing.
  4. Sunset Overdrive – When this came out I didn’t think I would like it despite loving Insomniac’s previous Rachet & Clank series. It was too bizarre, too meta, and too bright (yeah I complain about stuff like that). Microsoft did a free weekend for their anniversary and I was hooked! I played as much as I could. It’s fast paced and you never stand still (ever…it’s a good way to die actually). There is something completely refreshing about a game that makes moving around the world so easy fluid. Assassin’s Creed did this as well, but Sunset Overdrive makes AC seem like walking with a cane.

 Games Not Yet Released

  1. Rise of the Tomb Raider – I loved the first game! It rocked as far as origin reboots go, and it was a solid adventure survival game. I’m so ready to get back into Lara’s world! Hurry release day!
  2. The Division – This is one of those games I’m pretty sure I’m going to suck at. I’m not much for the gritty post apocalyptic games, and even less so when it comes to Tom Clancy based stories. (Splinter Cell is only fun with multiple people and usually if you’re prone to screwing up a lot.). However it has an epic looking announce trailer from E3 and I’m dying to see how everything comes into play in terms of multiplayer.
  3. Kingdom Hearts 3 – *insert incoherent screaming* A million times yes! I love these games and the fact that a long awaited third game is coming out is just the brining out the 10 year old in me. I need my keyblades! Bring on the Heartless! The one thing I don’t like about these games is the weird storylines, it’s so hard to keep up with it all.
  4. Elder Scrolls Online (for the Xbox One) – They keep delaying this. I was upset, but after Unity…I don’t care. Delay it…just make it work. I was in the closed and open Beta for this one and it was so much fun, but it was on my laptop and even then I could tell my laptop would have a hell of time trying to run it in full capacity. So I’m settling for console, which is where I played the others anyway.

My Gift Recommendations

  • Any Tell-Tale game out right now: The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, or A Game of Thrones. All solid point-&-click games with amazing storytelling.
  • Surgeon Simulator…seriously. It’s not a game that looks like it’s going to be a hit. In fact it looks sort of bad, but it’s not a game for those who want to take it seriously because it’ll only end with them rage quitting while everyone else laughs their asses off. It’s for the people who legitimately want a game that entertains them in ways they didn’t expect. The graphics are loopy and you’re more likely to kill the patient than succeed, but the main thing is you’re laughing. You’re laughing so uncontrollably that you’ve probably killed the patient even quicker than you intended. I definitely recommend going to watch some Twitch feeds for this one. It’s always good for a laugh.
  • Five Nights At Freddy’s – It’s a game of simple means. You’re a security guard at a party restaurant, your job is to make sure the animatronics stay locked up all night. The only problem is they kind of want to kill you. It’s basically just you staring at a screen like you might die at anymore and panicking. It’s a good game to buy for nights where you want to play with friends.

Currently Playing : Wizards 101

So this is sort of a kid’s MMO, but I’m at the critical point in my sanity right now. I’m too stressed to focus on straight forward games on my consoles, so this is when I fall back to MMOs to pass time and unwind. The problem is I tend to become slightly addicted to them when I’m under a lot of stress, and I’ve passed into that area. So Lord of the Rings Online and Star Wars:The Old Republic Online are strictly off limits (as are the hundreds of other MMOs I have accounts for). The safe MMOs are the simplest ones, hence Wizard 101.

It’s easy to pick up where you left off and there are no missions that last hours and no level grinding involved. It’s a card based adventure, where all of the fights are based on which cards you have in your deck. It’s a good amount of fun and the servers are always nice and empty during the day because all of the kids are at school.

Concerning the Kingdom Hearts storyline check youtube, I watched a video about the story line and things suddenly started to make sense. I think it was this movie: it’s long, but it explains things well. I am excited for kh3 as wel, although after all those years my enthousiasm has waned a bit and I can’t afford a new console, so I probably won’t be able to play it anyway.

I always enjoyed the pokemon games, I think the last one I bought is black for the ds. I don’t have a 3ds so I never bought any future games.

I love the ratchet and clank game,s but Sunset Overdrive looks too bright like you said, but who knows, maybe I just have to give it a try! I hope I can make some time to play ratchet and clank soon!

  2. I kind of miss being a hardcore DS gamer in my uni days, because I missed out on many of the Zelda and Pokemon reiterations and it’s really hard to get back into it you know? I did buy the Pokemon Y but only played it for 30 minutes or so.

It makes me so happy that you recommended Telltale Games as well because I LOVE all of the games! Assassin’s Creed is another franchise I never really got into, but I kind of want to because of the fandom surrounding it. I guess being mainly a PC player, I follow those trends more.

My bf is playing Dragon Age Inquisition at the moment and he keeps on going back and recreating his character. It makes me laugh that he spends so much time on it, because that’s what I did with the Sims. Great games here, Michelle, I hope you get some of them for Xmas 🙂

  3. I’ve never tried a kids mmo, bet that can be pretty fun.

And I’ve always meant to test run Kingdom Hearts and never have 😦

    • I don’t play very many because they tend to be too simple or easy, but Wizards 101 is pretty approachable and has a decent amount of things to do that can take a while to complete.

You should! I want them to re-release everything on the Xbox, since the new one is coming to all consoles but they probably won’t. 😦

  4. I can’t wait for Kingdom Hearts 3… I mean.. HURRY UP! I hadn’t heard of Five Nights at Freddys. Sounds like a lot of fun… I love to play games with friends, makes it all more fun!

    Angela’s Anxious Life

  5. Oh, Five Nights at Freddy’s. That’s a game that I want to play for the fun factor but it’s just so scary that I think I would never be able to sleep after it. :O

Thank you for stopping by! I hope you enjoyed it, leave a comment and tell me what you think.
