Interview: Emma Raveling, author of Ondine Quartet (Giveaway)

Today I have Emma Raveling on the blog! Emma is the author of the Ondine Quartet, a Young Adult Paranormal Fantasy series. Emma is also allowing me to hold a giveaway for e-copies of her WHOLE series and a sign swag pack! You don’t want to miss out on that!

Hi Emma, welcome to In Libris Veritas! Let’s start off by getting to know your books, could you describe the series in one sentence?

Hi Michelle! First of all, thank you for having me over today 🙂

If I were to describe the Ondine Quartet in one sentence, it’d be this:

A journey of fantasy, magic, action, and romance as a fiercely independent teenager faces the difficult reality of her destiny in the world of water elementals.

It sounds soooo good! Was Breaker easier or harder to write since it is the last book in the series?

Harder. That actually surprised me. Until I started writing it, I thought it’d be easier. After all, I’d known the ending for this series since before I began work on book one. There’s no other book beyond it so it’s a straight-forward matter of resolving everything. I’ve also written about these characters and this world over the course of almost four years. I know their voices, their backstories, their conflicts really well.

But what I hadn’t counted on was the actual process of getting to that end. So far, I’ve had to write several difficult scenes that have been both mentally demanding and emotionally grueling. Creating a satisfying conclusion to a series means arriving at a well-earned, hard-fought ending.

No matter how much I thought I knew my characters and this story, there was more left to be uncovered. It has certainly been an unexpected and challenging process so far.

I bet it was difficult to try and pull everything to a close, but it’ll all be worth it!

If you could control an element which would you choose?

It’s a toss-up for me between earth and water. Having the kind of power that can overturn and manipulate solid ground would be fascinating. Controlling and harnessing the power of the ocean would also be an intriguing prospect.

I’d love to control fire, it’s so wild and dangerous and having that sort of control over it would be amazing!

What are some of your favorite reads (other than your own books)?

This list is constantly changing, depending upon what’s going on in my life. At this moment, though, I’d have to say:

Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald

The Harry Potter series (this never gets taken off my favorites list) 🙂

Harry Potter is a constant for me too! Great List!

Are you working on anything else right now that you can share with us?

I’m currently working on Lost Blood, which is the first book in my new young adult series, Chancer. Set in a dark world of monsters and magic, it’s an urban fantasy / supernatural series with romantic elements featuring two very different protagonists.

I’m also working on Hidden Current, the prequel novella to Steel Magic, my new urban fantasy series for adults.

I hope to have both out in 2015 once the Ondine Quartet is complete.

Awesome! Lost Blood definitely sounds like something I would love and I’m definitely going to check out Steel Magic now! Thank you so much for joining me today Emma!

Please help me show Emma some support! Check out the giveaway and leave some love for her in the comments!
