As a part of the acclaimed DC Comics—The New 52 event of September 2011, meet Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman. She’s addicted to the night. Addicted to shiny objects. Addicted to Batman. Most of all, Catwoman is addicted to danger. She can’t help herself, and the truth is–she doesn’t want to. She’s good at being bad, and very bad at being good. But this time, Selina steals from the wrong man, and now he’s got her. He wants his stuff back, he wants answers and he wants blood. Writer Judd Winick begins a new chapter for CATWOMAN–hopefully she makes it out alive!
This volume collect issues 1-7 of Catwoman, part of the DC Comics—The New 52 event.
I’ve been really hesitant to pick up issues of Catwoman because I’ve heard some pretty back and forth things on the quality, but when I spotted it in the library I figured I’d just go for it. Unfortunately I understand why so many people have dismissed this storyline.
Selina Kyle is a burglar of the highest variety. She’s in it for the thrill even though sometimes the thrill is just too much. Overall the storyline is…okay. There is plenty of action and she can really kick butt if she needs too, and her motivation for doing what she does is getting stronger. Though by the time I finish the book I didn’t feel invested in the character and I honestly didn’t care what happened to her. I think if they spent more time giving Selina better dialogue and less time making her do weird poses in her skin tight suit we might have had a hit.
Seriously…I saw her in a bra or a blanket in 12 different panels and I can’t even remember the amount of unnecessary butt/crouch angles they decided to put in. We get it….Selina is in wonderful shape and has a gorgeous figure. That being sad the art is pretty nice, except for when the artist takes Selina’s face and makes it look crazy. Also I really don’t need an awkward sexy scene with Batman, really…
At any rate it’s an okay series so far but I’m really glad I didn’t buy these. I’m going to try out the second volume and with any luck it will improve. I would love to have a strong storyline for Selina, and hopefully the strong elements present in this one will grow.
I really like Catwoman; however, I haven’t read this series, because I have heard the same thing. I hate it when we have to be reminded every two minutes that Catwoman is sexy.
Exactly! We already know she’s sexy…it’s Catwoman, she’s in a catsuit. It’s kind of obvious already. I think if they spent less time coming up with inventive poses they might have a solid story for her.
