Goblet of Fire Chapter 1 – 8

1. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire opens with a murder. Clearly we’re in for a darker book. Thoughts?

It’s the first chapter and there is no sign of Harry, AND it opens with talk of death and a murder…if you start a book off that way just think about how crazy it will get later on.

2. Fred and George Weasley are entrepreneurs. Have you ever thought of running your own small business?

Of course! I have the obvious dream of opening up a bookstore and it recent months its turned into the dream of opening up a comic book store as well…mainly because someone else already acted on the bookstore dream in my town.

3. Wizarding tents are awesome! Do you tent camp? Would you if our tents were like wizarding tents?

Sure I’ve been camping before! It’s been a long time since I have though, but that’s mainly because I no longer have a tent. I would definitely camp more if they were wizarding tents though…I mean why not? I can fit everything in there! Though I suppose it defeats the point of camping though.

4. Dobby news! What do you think of Winky’s attitude towards an emancipated Dobby?

It’s kind of sad really. The House Elf way of life is so backwards…and I’m not sure all of them actually understand that some of them are being mistreated. It’s odd when you think about how sure she is and it puts me in the weird place of thinking that if this is what she truly wants for herself should I really find it terrible? If she wants to live a live of a servant then I suppose that’s okay, but I wish she understood that she shouldn’t be silenced and forced into doing something because she’s an elf. I’m proud of Dobby though, he’s realized that his life and work has value. More importantly he realized that he doesn’t have to go out of his way to please others in order to please himself.

5. What did you think of the Quidditch World Cup? The Team Mascots?

I don’t like sports but I love Quidditch. Isn’t it weird how I can barely get myself to care about the rules of football but I know all the rules for Quidditch? (I do love Soccer though). It sounds like an amazing experience! I don’t like the Veela…or I don’t really mind the veela as a species I do however mind that they would bring such ‘mind altering’ people to a stadium filled with people. I do like the Leprechauns though, lol. It’s a bit odd that their mascots are completely sentient and capable beings though…like we normally just use falcons or jaguars, they use people. 😛

  1. Shannon says:

I think of the veela and leprechauns like cheerleaders (who are real people 🙂 ) rather than mascots.

I love how sports fans and non-sports fans alike can all get into Quidditch!

  2. I love Quiditch too and don’t really follow any muggle sports haha. I would totally camp if we had wizard tents. I hate bugs so… I love that Fred and George start their own business. I want to sell decorated cakes or open a cupcake shop. Someday we’ll make it happen lol.

  3. Exactly. I mean Rowling definitely sets the tone for the rest of the series with this one chapter.

You could do both in the same storefront and offer something that the other bookstore may not.

But think about it! You could have your whole little reading cozy in there. Can you imagine all of those late nights spent tented under the blankets of your bed Sneaking in some reading time……in a wizarding tent? 🙂 The possibilities!!

I have to say that I have a soft spot for Dobby. It probably has to do with his blind adoration of Harry. I am just as conflicted as you are about Winky. I mean if that is what someone truly wants to do, who am I to say it’s wrong? BUT I’d feel a lot better about it if she knew what else there was in the big wide world.

There aren’t many sports that I watch either but I think I’d like Quidditch. I mean they are allowed to get away with quite a lot really. The only person mascot I can think of right now are the Dallas Cowboys but yeah there are very few teams that have people for mascots.
